A con is that growth is limited. There are only so many paths to the top, and if you want to grow within the organization. You may progress to a certain point, but if you are not identified early on of the potential they see in you, the growth will be stunted and you will just hit a wall. Unfortunately, this leads to a lot of good employees with many years of experience and lots of knowledge departing from the organization.
