Pros

I enjoy working with children and taking their photo. Making them smile big when they weren't going to smile at all is definitely rewarding!

Cons

Let's start with the early mornings. Like you have to be at work at 4:30 kind of early. Now picture that five days a week for 4 months straight. Now picture those being 12+ hour days. Alright, now you might be thinking to yourself, "wow, those are pretty good hours!" but what you have to keep in mind that you will only be making BARELY ABOVE MIN WAGE, and you'll only be working half of the year. That's right, you can't take school pictures when school isn't in session. Also, because of the school breaks and Lifetouch's declining client list, that equals roughly half of the year. Spring season is only elementary schools, & very few middle schools. If that isn't enough, they took away our health insurance in such a sneaky way... they made a minimum hourly requirement annually to get the coverage. And even if you make the insane hourly requirement, you only have the chance to enroll during open enrollment, which only rolls around once a year. This place is dying and the greedy CEO is cracking the whip on his slave employees on his way out.

Pros

Strong since of community at local level, and support from Directors and regional managers however all that support is no longer employed.

Cons

Revolving CEO lead to new strategic focus every 3 years. Round after round of layoffs, mergers, restructures. I went through no less than 6 during my 5 years as a senior manager. Lost local control, and ability to build relationships with accounts. Closed offices based on lease agreements rather than area performance. I would be very careful to ask questions about culture, and tenure of staff, ask how many offices were closed or restructures have happened since Shutterfly, and then Apollo Global Capital. Apollo Global Management usually holds onto assets for 3-5 years, we are past that mark so I would be expecting that they will be breaking up Shutterfly in the near future if it is no longer profitable.
