Pros

Working with kids and getting the photo experience in portrait work is amazing. You meet a lot of cool people.

Cons

I was stuck in the camera room for 8 hours at a time because nobody is trained to be competent enough to be fast enough during holidays. We may at times not even get a break if they're too busy to let us leave for 30 minutes. They're all about numbers, if you're not shoving packages down peoples throats then they will treat you like crap. They give you way too many hours then take them away so you basically can't live on what you make but when you get a second job they complain you don't have enough availability for the 'on call' shifts.

Pros

Strong since of community at local level, and support from Directors and regional managers however all that support is no longer employed.

Cons

Revolving CEO lead to new strategic focus every 3 years. Round after round of layoffs, mergers, restructures. I went through no less than 6 during my 5 years as a senior manager. Lost local control, and ability to build relationships with accounts. Closed offices based on lease agreements rather than area performance. I would be very careful to ask questions about culture, and tenure of staff, ask how many offices were closed or restructures have happened since Shutterfly, and then Apollo Global Capital. Apollo Global Management usually holds onto assets for 3-5 years, we are past that mark so I would be expecting that they will be breaking up Shutterfly in the near future if it is no longer profitable.
