Pros

There are opportunities for research and development at Lonza there is a culture of scientific literacy that is unique and drew me to the organization at first. You have a unique opportunity to interact with the clients and business end of projects that allows you to see multiple aspects of bringing a pharmaceutical product to market.

Cons

This site is massively disorganized, every day felt like putting out fires and you could expect a big turnover rate for your coworkers. A majority of my team and direct management left within the first year of my working at Lonza, leading us to pick up the pieces. Additionally, the middle management seemed more interested in personal advancement than solving chronic problems that would plague frontline workers on a day-to-day basis. The culture was stuck in its ways and was not interested in applying different problem solving techniques to its projects. I can personally attest to seeing PPE standards not being met by its employees to meet deadlines set by middle management, with middle management not being amenable to moving deadlines with clients.

Pros

Compensation (for higher level associates/senior management positions)

Cons

1) Work/life balance - leaders don't honor paid time off. Many teams expect you to be available during paid time off periods 2) Benefits - employer doesn't offer employer-subsidized vision insurance 3) Holidays - employer doesn't offer MLK Day and Juneteeth as paid days off, indicating how little they value diversity, inclusion, and belonging 4) Promotions - political; not based on merit 5) Mandated 5 day return-to-office to enable "in person collaboration" while at the same time offshoring jobs to cheaper markets. 6) PTO - based on tenure, but I think Lonza prefers high turnover so they don't have to give people time off (if they even honor it in the first place - see con 1) 7) Lack of harmonization - for an established CDMO, I was surprised at the level of misalignment between sites and the lack of standardization of processes
