Pros
Average benefits (med, dental, vision partially covered, HSA match, average pto, slightly above average 401k match, ability to move up or change departments within a retail space. Scheduled pay increases. Employee relief fund for unforseen urgent expenses, as long as certain criteria are met. Incentive opportunities. Quarterly bonus based on store performance.
Cons
Pay is not great. For where I live, it wasn't enough to get ahead. Extremely limited opportunity for OT. Floor level associates aren't held as tight as department specialists (the people that work with homeowners and contractors to sell projects), but it is still expected. Weekend and holiday work, there are only 3 holidays a year the stores are closed, other holidays are blacked out on PTO. If you're lucky enough to get a set schedule, that pretty much goes away if you move up to a department supervisor (end up working both opening and closing shifts in the same week based on department needs). Like many retail spaces, you can be asked to cover other departments to help out, even if you are the only one in your department. All of that said, management of the store I worked at did their best to support their associates.
