Pros

- This is an okay summer job. The pay was absolutely ridiculous, but I received excellent hours during their infamous "100 Days of Hell" during the summer rush. Some weeks I received 60-65 hours.

Cons

- Pay is absolutely horrible. Expect to be paid $1.50 more than minimum wage. - The work environment/culture is downright depressing. You go into the break room for lunch and all the employees look like zombies. Employees are over worked and never receive praise for a job well done. - The evaluation/review process isn't fair. Not even the best employees can receive "Exceeds expectations" on any category during a review, because that means they would be eligible for a promotion. - If you close the store at night, you cannot leave (even if you're scheduled to go home and your department has been taken care of) until the entire store is closed and ready for the next day. - Retention rate for employees is a joke. Store employees, for the most part, do not enjoy working their, and many choose to resign after about a month. - Do NOT expect to be trained how to do different things (operating heavy machinery, woodcutting, key-cutting, ect.), because management doesn't see the benefit in training their employees in multiple areas of the store. Why? I have absolutely no idea. This is a stupid move because they could have employees trained to handle any situation to arise in the store. - It is a job, do not expect to make a career out of working at Lowe's unless you are well connected with store management.

Pros

Some amazing customers and coworkers. Tasks and systems were easy to learn. Sometimes you get lucky and have amazing ASMs and SMs. It's easy to get a good survey when you treat customers like friends, be honest about what you do and don't know, and work to learn what you don't. That goes a long way with customers. I personally truly loved my job and loved spending as much time as I could at work.

Cons

Once you are on someones S*** List they will make it possible to get rid of you. Management only follows policy when it benefits them. Some people get promoted when they have no business working in retail as a leader. The A/C in the store I worked in was always broken during the summer, which made it miserable to work. Some customers are entitled due to they way management will kiss their butts to keep from losing a sale or getting a bad review. Management will make a paper trail to write you up if you mess up or are struggling instead of helping you better yourself. Management does not care about employees' work-life balance. Management does not care if their employees are struggling with personal issues like car troubles, health issues, financial issues, etc. Management will get rid of great employees but keep people who don't pull their weight. Once I hit burnout, instead of helping me, I was punished by my managers. In turn making me hate a job I truly loved.
