Paid time off flexibility does not compensate for poor support - Digital Banker M&T Bank Employee Review

Pros

One notable benefit is the availability of unplanned paid time off (PTO), which can be utilized on short notice. Employees are permitted to use this time as needed, provided that notification is given to both their supervisor and the command center. This offers a level of flexibility in urgent or unforeseen situations.

Cons

The organization demonstrates a lack of consistent support and consideration for employee well-being. Situations involving medical needs, pregnancy, or personal emergencies are not always handled with the level of understanding one would expect. Employees who have exhausted their PTO may still face disciplinary action, including write-ups or termination, regardless of the circumstances. There is also a lack of work-life balance. Employees are required to rebid for shifts every few months, and selected schedules are not guaranteed, as assignments are determined based on seniority. This creates instability and makes it difficult to maintain consistent personal and family commitments. There is a strong emphasis on performance monitoring, including mandatory weekly meetings with supervisors to review and critique calls. While feedback is important, the frequent changes to policies, procedures, and expectations can create confusion and make it difficult for employees to consistently meet standards. Additionally, employees may be placed on action plans for minor infractions, including time taken for personal needs such as restroom use, without sufficient consideration of individual circumstances. Communication from management can be inconsistent, and concerns are not always addressed in a constructive or transparent manner. Furthermore, employees returning from leave may encounter limited flexibility regarding scheduling adjustments or part-time arrangements, even when there are legitimate personal or medical reasons. This lack of accommodation can be particularly challenging for long-tenured employees. I would not recommend this company due to its lack of support, poor communication, and rigid policies that do not consider employee well-being.

Pros

Bank Holidays and the vacation time

Cons

They hire knowing there is not enough work to keep you busy, Lack of pay and what they promised to make up for the pay in bonus and OT does not happen. Lack of experienced management who knows what they are doing. QC department that picks on every small detail vs knowing how to get a loan purchased and move on. MOST OF ALL, there is NO training. You are left out in to figure and fend for yourself the M&T Bank way. Lots of useless weekly meetings and the only ones that stay are the long time employees are have no experience working in a "real" mortgage company to know what is right and wrong.
