Pros
Amazing learning experiences in the world of cancer research and treatment. As a nurse there are a lot of different opportunities to grow. Pay and benefits are good, depending on your department. You can accrue a large amount of vacation time the longer you are employed. There is a lot of effort to provide a good work/life balance. There is currently a large full-service exercise/work out area in one of the buildings.
Cons
Everything depends on how your department is managed. Some people have lost their jobs due ot poor management and budget cuts. The environment is very political as is most academic institutions. As mentioned above, the benefits are good, but most have difficutly taking their vacation time. I am leaving my position because of micromanagement and the difficulty getting time off approved. This is because of my department director's managment style. There is no other position in MD Anderson with my title and pay scale.
