Pros
There are many pros with working here including all the benefits of PTO, all necessary insurances, paid holidays, and other forms of time off especially for mental health reasons. The managers I work under are very understanding and encouraging of taking time off when it comes to our physical and mental health. Working here is a good place for long-term and building up your retirement fund.
Cons
The main "con" about MD Anderson (really applies to all state owned institutions) is that your pay is based off of years of experience in the field and not what you bring to the company. According to my work experience, I "technically" have under 1 year experience in the field because my other experiences were not paid, full-time jobs. Due to that, my salary is dependent on that information and not the skills and value I've brought to the team during my time being here. I personally feel that it's holding back my growth too since my managers aren't able to give me anymore work since that would be considered the next level role in our department. I know this isn't MD Anderson's doing but if you want to work at a place you can grow and get paid your worth, then just don't work at a state-owned institution.
