Pros

A matching 401k, pension, and lots of time off. It's great to be surrounded by very smart people who are excited about their work. Generally there is a great sense of wanting to include and not a caste style system for faculty and staff.

Cons

Your experience will depend on your manager. Pre pandemic it would have been very difficult or impossible to work from home even one day a week depending on the department you were in. It's difficult to get assistance with career growth. Lots of people who have titles that should be helping with that but in the end they do nothing. I had a mentor who took me out to lunch a few times to discuss my career. He changed roles and never told me soI was just dropped and there was no one to pick up where he left off. That is the main issue - zero follow up.
