A great workplace...for getting depressed - Maintenance Technician Mac Properties Employee Review

Pros

Pay is a little higher than average. Alot of their buildings are extensively rehabbed so maintenance is not necessarily difficult on them. Typical benefits - decent health insurance (although they switched 3 times while I was there), 20% rent discount for employees, 2 weeks PTO plus holidays. And if you're a slacker who doesn't give a crap - it's really hard to get fired.

Cons

I went through 2 Maint Directors and at least 8 co-workers in 2.5 yrs.. One guy became Supervisor at 23 yrs old, quit and then returned - to his old position. Never an adequate supply of parts. Too many co-workers don't give a crap (not that I blame them) so people who care carry more of the load. You get told repeatedly by upper management that things will improve and get fixed but either it doesn't happen or takes years. The best part - you get 2% pay raises no matter how hard you work.

Mac Properties Response

Here at MAC in KC we take pride in our history of promoting from within; it is testimony to the training and investment we make in our staff. As a result, we are overjoyed that half of our maintenance staff has worked for us for 3+yrs. Total compensation, including base pay, bonuses, benefits is very competitive and our annual pay increases are determined based on merit and work performance. MAC in KC hosts a number of employee appreciation events throughout the year and are always open to suggestions to new events!
