Pros
MCC is a good place to work if you're a student or only want a part-time job (sometimes less than part time). Most jobs here at VERY easy and pretty fun. It's great meeting new people and interacting with students. Very diverse student population. Mostly clerical-type work. Lots of tutoring jobs. Depending on which department/area you work in, scheduling is pretty flexible and you really can't get fired or let go. No dress code. GREAT part-time union! There are some cool part time benefits once you've worked there for a long time. Good work/life balance for the most part (it rly depends where you work).
Cons
No worthwhile benefits. No healthcare. For most areas, your schedule will change depending on student traffic. Many depts cut hours during "slower times" for student traffic (to save money), and will then max out your hours during very busy times. Part-timers have a cap of 25 hours per week and you are NOT allowed to work more because that would entitle you to benefits! Do not take a part time job with Macomb if you're expecting it to turn into a full time opportunity or career. It's possible, yes, but VERY unlikely. Many part time workers have been there FOREVERR expecting that to happen, but now they're just career part timers. Lots of politics at this college. HUGE lack of communication everywhere. Low pay, usually starts at min wage. This place still uses paper time cards. Upper management are spoiled and act like it. Big disconnect between full-time and part time staff.
