Pros

- THE STUDENTS! If you're in a position which allows you to work directly with students, you'll LOVE your job. This is my favorite part about what I do - Learn a lot about people, different cultures, etc. You can get pretty cultured here and meet a ton of people - Good experience for a job in the future - Working here will make you appreciate your next job even more - It's fun to say you work at a College - Campus Police are AWESOME!!!! They're friendly and do a great job. THANK YOU - College will pay your tuition for MCC courses IF you work a certain number of hours - Student Life & Leadership is a great dept - SOS Dept is INVALUABLE to students. amazing, thank you! - Food pantry = GREAT - You'll see a pattern here, if you CARE about people, you'll do a great service to the students, but you'll be unappreciated by the college itself & senior leaders.

Cons

- Huge disconnect between staff/students. MOST of the staff treat the students like dirt - Many of the employees work in customer-service oriented positions, yet have NO BUSINESS working with people. They're grouchy, cold, and rude. They belong in a cubicle hidden away from the public - Lack of loyalty to current staff. Will pass up some amazing employees for promotions and then bring in someone from the outside with a fancy degree who has never worked in the local area or at a community college before - Most positions are part time or adjunct. You struggle to make ends meet and see full-time employees enjoying high salaries, lots of vacation time, paid tuition for masters degrees, etc. It's disheartening & frustrating - Lots of "office politics" and favorites - Lots of old people who should have retired a long time ago... - No staff parking unless you're full time - You don't get "days off," but you accumulate hours for sick time and vacations based on how much you work, which is limited by the college - Even though South and Center are both MCC, they feel like completely different worlds. For example, the math or english dept at one campuses teaches differently and uses different textbooks - You hear a lot of negative experiences from students which is so frustrating - Time and time again, you'll hear how the counseling/advising dept fails students - Your hours will be cut during slow times and you'll be worked to the bone during busy times - You might have a new schedule EVERY single semester
