Pros

20% Associate discount can be combined with other offers Ability to earn "Macy's Money", which can be used as cash to purchase items "MY" manager is great...can't speak for others.

Cons

I work in the shoe department. I have sold shoes for many companies and this by far is the worst. I have no idea how a person can support themselves, let alone a family with this pay structure. They work on a 100% commission system. The draw is a set hourly rate $8 that they give you up front for the hours you work and you must pay back from your future commission. You can end up constantly in the hole if you don't sell enough to get you over the $8/hr mark with the 7% comm rate. I really needed a job, but I regret having taken this one. Every other sell job I have had was a base + commission which allows you to make some decent money. Not so at Macy's, terrible place to work unless you have been there for 10+ years. Also holiday pay is non existant. Part-timers get nothing and full timers have to use a personal holiday. This place is terrible, I am trying my best to get out of here.

Pros

you get ok pto even as a part timer, not physically demanding, good A/C and heating depending on the weather.

Cons

very low pay compared to other businesses, you only get a 40 cent raise every year. same playlist consisting of 15 songs on repeat and it drives you crazy as time goes on. very inconsistent hours they rarely give morning shifts, you only get the more undesirable shifts like closing which ends at 9:30pm. the sales goals will be exceeded and they hours will still be cut especially around the holiday season. numerous amounts of time where i am left alone at the register on a busy day with no backup and still expected to clean fitting rooms and recover the floor with no help. overall no room for growth, started when i was 18 and am now 20 and have not even been considered or offered a higher position, 2 tiny raises is all i got. i overall feel like my position is bottom of the barrel compared to asset protection, jewelry department, and fragrance sales because they get paid better and make commission while doing less easier work. would not recommend and if you do end up working at a Macys use the experience you have and never stop applying to jobs because there really is no growth here.
