Pros

Uhm..I really do not know, I didn't see a plus side to anything while I was there.

Cons

First of all, the "traning" their suppose to give you is just you stuck in a room for two days staring at a computer watching videos and then you work with another version of the cash register for like maybe 25% of the entire training process. So after only being there for two days which was my training days, Macys calls me on my night off around 6:30pm and asks if I can come in for the rest of the night. I told them I had not worked on the floor yet by myself and could only do it if I would be shadowing someone for the shift since it's only a short one. The lady on the phone kinda paused and then she said "sure, that's not a problem someone will be there with you so don't worry". I get there 30 mins later, met up with the manager who is supposedly going to train me for the rest of the night and I would be shadowing her. Before you know it, people are in line and ready to check out, so she starts ringing people up and just throws the clothes at me and tells me to take off the security tags and fold and put them into bags. I've never in my life worked retail so this was a little nerve wracking since I really didn't know what I was doing. I did the best I could and she finishes what I couldn't do and then after that we ring up one more customer together and then she tells me that she has to go to another area of the store but to call her if I need anything, as if I know how to do that or even know what number to dial. She leaves, and then another girl in the department I was in was kind of showing me what to do around the section and then she tells me she has to go to the mens department and I was like wait, so I wont be shadowing you then? She simply goes, "you'll be fine, trust me!" She leaves, and then I already have my first customer showing me her cell phone on the Macys app asking where she can find this specific shirt, I told her I didn't know, let me try to find someone. Then another lady was ready to be checked out, I had a hard time ringing her up and she says she has a macys card but left it at home, I couldn't remember how to do that, I told her I was so sorry but couldn't complete her transaction and escorted her to another register to be checked out. LONG story short, they don't respect their employees, not even there for 10 mins on my first night on the floor and I am left alone.

Pros

you get ok pto even as a part timer, not physically demanding, good A/C and heating depending on the weather.

Cons

very low pay compared to other businesses, you only get a 40 cent raise every year. same playlist consisting of 15 songs on repeat and it drives you crazy as time goes on. very inconsistent hours they rarely give morning shifts, you only get the more undesirable shifts like closing which ends at 9:30pm. the sales goals will be exceeded and they hours will still be cut especially around the holiday season. numerous amounts of time where i am left alone at the register on a busy day with no backup and still expected to clean fitting rooms and recover the floor with no help. overall no room for growth, started when i was 18 and am now 20 and have not even been considered or offered a higher position, 2 tiny raises is all i got. i overall feel like my position is bottom of the barrel compared to asset protection, jewelry department, and fragrance sales because they get paid better and make commission while doing less easier work. would not recommend and if you do end up working at a Macys use the experience you have and never stop applying to jobs because there really is no growth here.
