Certainly the worst place I've ever worked - Network Engineer MaineHealth Employee Review

Pros

Not many. Generally the workers are reasonable, I'd say. Some people try and work hard, but they are about 30% of the population at MaineHealth.

Cons

Terrible management in the "IT" areas of the place. They treat their network as if it's some secondary thing. There is no hospital without a well functioning network. The clowns that have installed themselves in this dept are just that. If you're thinking applying for job a MH, please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. I guess my attitude about the whole MaineHealth operation is not helped by the fact that they misdiagnosed a major health issue for me while the assigned Dr. was out playing golf and they handed me off from Dr. to Dr. to Dr. Finally one of them figured out what was wrong months later. I never should have started working for them in first place, but I did, and it was a big mistake. Place is awful and you will not be happy unless you're just looking to do the minimum, collect a check. Definitely the worst place I've ever worked as an adult.

Pros

I have worked at MaineHealth for over 14 years and have had the opportunity to grow through five promotions. What started as a better job opportunity has become a career I am genuinely committed to. My experience has been positive overall, with strong mentors, good colleagues, and meaningful work that supports people who are helping others. I have generally felt trusted, challenged, and able to grow.

Cons

Healthcare is challenging, and rural healthcare brings real financial and operational pressure. MaineHealth is a large organization, so communication and decision-making can sometimes feel slow or uneven depending on the area. Not every decision will make sense to every employee in the moment, even when there are good reasons behind it. Like most corporate structures, I think communication is something that will always need work.
