Pros

Fortunately for the patients there are many wonderful physicians, NPs, PAs, allied health professionals and others working here who care about delivering consistently safe, effective care and supporting each other. The work environment, on a personal level, is mostly friendly and supportive. If you are fortunate enough to have a good manager, your work life will be good. Some positions pay well for the area.

Cons

Senior management is out of touch with reality and the struggles of employees at all levels. Very little common sense is shown in decision making. Bullying is condoned. Great variety of ability and professionalism among managers and supervisors. Many people are allowed to stay in jobs who are not productive or professional. Advancement only comes for those whose bosses are part of the inner circle. Pay raises stuck at 2% (or less) per year unless your boss is part of inner management circle.

Pros

I have worked at MaineHealth for over 14 years and have had the opportunity to grow through five promotions. What started as a better job opportunity has become a career I am genuinely committed to. My experience has been positive overall, with strong mentors, good colleagues, and meaningful work that supports people who are helping others. I have generally felt trusted, challenged, and able to grow.

Cons

Healthcare is challenging, and rural healthcare brings real financial and operational pressure. MaineHealth is a large organization, so communication and decision-making can sometimes feel slow or uneven depending on the area. Not every decision will make sense to every employee in the moment, even when there are good reasons behind it. Like most corporate structures, I think communication is something that will always need work.
