Pros

The students are amazing, but that’s it.

Cons

What even is this place? It’s literally the worst place to work. Where to start even? This place was the most chaotic disorganized mess of an “organization” that I’ve ever seen. The program is now headed by the biggest egomaniacs that they could have have put in charge and they will take any change they can get to put women down and make them feel small and unimportant. If you’re a woman, be prepared to be assigned to an un-proportionally amount of cleaning and cooking tasks by them. None of the directors are qualified to be giving the pseudo-counseling/therapy conversations that they are having with the students but pretend to so they can collect a hefty paycheck. There was also one director who would intrude on students privacy by marching into their apartments and bang on their doors and yell at them while they were still in bed and demand that they come down and make food for his Wednesday barbecue and/or be “voluntold” to go volunteer at the senior center. All of this to make it look like their students were doing volunteer work for the community to save face for when the students parents would receive updates about their child. They then expect their coaches to do the same even if it’s extremely uncomfortable and a violation of any morals they might have. Coaches are basically nothing more than glorified nanny’s as you will also be expected to clean student apartments that didn’t get cleaned by unmotivated students in order for the company to also save face on parent weekends. If you hate cleaning up hair, toenail clippings and moldy food, this isn’t the job for you. Also parking is a nightmare. If you are a pm coach, you will frequently have to park blocks away because they don’t have space in their lot, or you will be blocking in one of the precious director’s cars and you will have to move your vehicle like six times before the night is finished just so they can get out of the lot. If you’re an am coach, expect to have your car blocked in. Also if you don’t have summer camp work experience, you won’t be a pet of the directors. Basically avoid this place at all costs because they won’t care about you, just saving face for parent conversations and parent weekends so they can ultimately put more money in their own pockets. That’s all there is to this shallow shell of place that pretends to care about neurodivergent young people.

Pros

-Heartfelt work culture based on care for one another and the wonderful students! -Transparent, encouraging, and approachable upper management. -Reasonable pay and perks for an entry level part-time position. -Holistic approach to student and staff development and wellbeing. -Potential to go on fun trips with the students such as hiking, ice cream, bike rides, and most other activities you can think of!

Cons

-It is easy to "pretend" to work on your laptop, and no one calls you out for it. Substitute Community Engagement Coaches don't have much required work, so you need to figure out how to keep busy. -There is less socioeconomic diversity than many other human service positions because Mansfield Hall is an expensive privately funded program.
