Pros

Small special service provider group so you get to know people, many of the people I worked with were pretty laid back, and we were able to purchase a lot of tools and supports (curriculum, sensory equipment, etc) when I asked for it.

Cons

The district HR person told me that I didn't qualify for a MA+30 salary even though my degree program was 64 credits, which has NEVER been the case before. Had I known that I was going to take a huge paycut before sitting down to sign my contract, I would have continued looking and interviewing for jobs. The schools also do not have enough mental health support. I was forced to sacrifice my own mental health in order to support the mental health of the students because there should have been two (or more) mental health providers in the building. But they only employed one and I had to suffer the entire school year. For that reason alone I quit and would never return. It's something that mental health providers should know if you are interested in working for this district.

Pros

Some of your co-workers make it worth going into work everyday.

Cons

Only work here if you want teachers that are turned over every 2 years. This school district has no respect for teachers has no value for teachers and only uses them until they burn them out and throws them out with no future work. Students have no consequences for negative behaviors. They can leave class whenever they want. Say whatever they want, do whatever they want and then the teachers are the ones who are held responsible for the students behavior. Administration gives no support to teachers and allows the students to go so far as to laugh in teachers faces because they know they run the school not the other way around. Students are allowed to turn in their work till the end of the semester to keep the failure rates down so the principals and superintendents look better even if that means teachers are up all night grading work so that the can get it in to make sure the students pass.
