Pros

Decent salary, sales bonuses are good, great client list, theoretical prestige of working at "Marsh" and the fancy titles, expense accounts for fancy dinners, limos and hotels to support the company image.

Cons

Except for MD, titles are worthless in reality. Unless you are CE, access to the clients is almost impossible if your job involves trying to talk with clients about anything other than old fashioned P&C placement. Everything is all about revenue - if you don't believe that, then you have have been there less than 2 years. Too many initiatives launched by NY. Geographic structure conflicts with national servicing of clients. Each day brings a new fight over accounting and who should get credit for revenue, sales, client service. Internal Marsh needs are generally placed ahead of servicing clients. Support staff has been cut too far over the past years so remaining staff are far too overloaded to really provide quality client service.

Pros

Supportive and collaborative marketing leadership team. Leadership welcomed new ideas and outside perspectives. Clear direction from leadership, modern NYC office, and strong investment in marketing operations, technology, and innovation. I had the opportunity to meet with John Doyle several times. He always came across as decisive, approachable, and genuinely passionate about the business and its people. That tone carried through much of the leadership culture. I also enjoyed working for John Jones. He was a strong leader who set clear objectives, communicated priorities well, and created realistic expectations for the team. That clarity helped the organization stay focused while still encouraging innovation and new ideas.

Cons

Like many large enterprise organizations, decision-making could move slowly at times due to the matrixed structure and number of stakeholders involved across business units.
