Pros
The best thing about the job is that you get your own truck, tools, gas and the job itself. There are times when everything goes right and you walk away satisfied with money in your pocket. And then there are times when everything goes wrong. One of the best things about this job is that you can grow in your creativity. Working on the field can be fun and fulfilling. Paid every Friday. The job is what you make of it. But even when you try your hardest and sometimes risk your life on the job the management will take that away from you.
Cons
Major downside to this company is the upper management. It seems like every week the supervisors come up with new ways to cover their backs while making your job harder. There are times when even Directv lets you down either by denying your waivers or making you jump through hoops. The major problem with this company is the management. The supervisors can really get on your nerves and make working for them very unpleasant. There will be times where you cant get all the equipment you ordered because the warehouse either ran out or says you have that equipment in your inventory. Why and how does a warehouse run out? Then the supervisors have you running around, calling other technicians, looking for parts. A supervisors will not get off his seat and come help you. There will be times when you get stuck at a call all day and only walk away with $25 in your pocket. Dont even think about asking for a "flat rate" I have never gotten paid for a flat rate in this company. A flat rate is a set pay for a certain job. You will never get paid flat rate jobs. If they ask you to do QA work do NOT do it. They will have you go to customers homes and then cancel their service calls! If the customer cancels their service call it looks "good" for the company. Meanwhile they expect you to fix the reason why the customer had to call in for a service call. I think that is illegal. Now lets say you have to do a huge job for the customer guess what? They will not pay you for that job. Huge blow, huge waste of time stay away from QA. You have lazy supervisors who will not look out for you. The job of a sup. is to come check up on you, make sure you have your proper safety equipment and if you needed a hand will help you. Nope. The company wants you to take pictures of you wearing the Safety equipment, take pictures of your van with the cones out, take pictures of your signature at the dish, take pictures of the boxes result code. My ladder was never inspected. I couldnt wait to leave this company. Like I said, there are goods and bads to everything but dont play games with our money. Many new techs quit very early in working for this company. There are times when you are tired and hungry and at the end of the day the dispatcher will give you two more jobs late at night. The only way to move or cancel the jobs are for you to call the customer. Many cons for this job. The cons outweigh the pros for sure.
