Pros
- The location in Coral Gables is great. Plenty of places to go for lunch - The company pays for garage parking - The IT department keeps up with the latest technology in some areas - especially the cloud - Majority of the company speaks Spanish - People in the company are friendly/approachable (Small company feel) - The IT department is not stressful or high pressure driven. Ex: It's not common to have to work On-call unless you're on the IT help desk side and most projects deliverables are manageable - Plenty of opportunities to learn new technologies. If you have the drive to learn. - Holiday party and company picnic are appreciated
Cons
- The IT department is disorganized due to lack of Project Managers to drive projects forward - SharePoint manager does not trust team with making changes to the SharePoint farm. He micro manages all SP changes so there's very little room to grow as a SharePoint admin. - There is no HR department for dealing with onboarding or benefit issues. - The IT department is cheap when it comes to investing in staff - Ex: For training and paying for company phones it can be a hassle to get approval - The company in general has high turnover - including the IT dept. Most people leave within 2-3 years for better pay and opportunities. - Miami traffic is horrible for commuting to Mastec. 1.5+ hours each way from Broward. - There's a lot of politics when it comes to submitting changes in Production. - There's no clearly defined career or milestone path at Mastec. Also, no yearly bonus or pay raise in the IT dept.
