Poor pay, worse upper management - Engineer Masimo Employee Review

Pros

Masimo has some awesome products that really do benefit patient care. Their pulse oximeters and Rainbow SET technology are top notch and pretty much unmatched by what any other company is putting out there. Depending on the team, Masimo truly has some great people working there. There are some very smart engineers there that do really care about the product they're putting out, but are largely hindered by upper management. In terms of wellness, it seems like Masimo has always had some pretty decent options for employees, with an on-site gym and an on-site clinic. There are also various wellness incentives for an annual checkup or dental visits which are pretty nice to have. Under the new management, it seems like work life balance is pretty decent, though that's probably more due to the current upper management cutting projects and having no idea what they want, leaving employees to have much less work.

Cons

The new management under Katie seems pretty lost. Seems like a few members of former management (and Wall Street) agree, as Masimo has had two CTOs resign already. In addition, with HQ being in Irvine, it seems like salaries and equity have long been outpaced by inflation, as even a mid-level role here will leave you (quite literally) under the poverty line. To add insult to injury, their "subsidized" lunch will cost you ten dollars a day for subpar food, so you're much better off either bringing your own lunch or going out to any of the delectable establishments that Sand Canyon has to offer, as that'll probably cost around the same for much higher quality food. The insurance premiums are wicked expensive, often running a couple hundred per paycheck (for just one person!), while there's just a measly 3% 401k match to compensate.

Pros

Danaher came in and this new ceo will be better than the last one. Innovative devices that make a real difference in clinical environments. Talented, dedicated engineers and individual contributors who are passionate about quality and results. Competitive benefits and resources supporting the technical work.

Cons

senior leadership appear disconnected from actual operations. They often seem to know little about the day-to-day realities and contribute minimal practical value, leading to poor decisions, bottlenecks, and wasted effort for the teams doing the real work. Increasing bureaucracy and top-heavy structure that slows down progress despite the strong capabilities of the people on the ground. A noticeable gap between executive influence and actual impact, which is frustrating even as a newcomer observing it. Key talent and legacy know-how are leaving at a concerning rate, which makes newcomers like me nervous about the company’s long-term knowledge retention and stability. Gossip is rampant, further eroding trust and team cohesion.
