Pros

The assessments give a nice stream of feedback on how the kids are doing. Seeing them improve over the long term is satisfying, and you can intervene to help kids who are stuck.

Cons

Students often get bored by the stream of similar pages. And the punch system can lead to bad incentives — despite Mathnasium’s focus on understanding, punches make kids want to do pages rather than deeply get the concepts. Finally, when the center is crammed, certain kids may not get the attention they need.

Pros

Flexible hours that I could choose, nice working space. My boss was nice and very reasonable. Pay was decent after I completed some certifications. When the teaching was effective it was pretty rewarding and it can be fun to talk to the kids.

Cons

It was honestly a very tiring job. The kids can get really rowdy and difficult to manage, especially if you have to teach three at the same time. Management required us to use tablets and a finicky platform for worksheets that was not helpful and forced me to further split my attention.
