Lower pay than other tutoring gigs. Few hours, scheduling is very short-notice. - Instructor Mathnasium Employee Review

Pros

Teaching math to kids is likable. The training material does have some great ideas for teaching fundamental math concepts to young ones.

Cons

Very few hours. At best, I would work ~12 hours a week. And that's for an hourly pay of~$11. There was another math tutoring franchise 5 mins away that paid $15/hr... no-brainer? Scheduling process is not appealing. Each weekday, da boss would tell you when to come in the next day. They tell you when to arrive, but not how long you'll work. If they don't text you at all, then you're not working that day. You enter every week with NO idea how many hours you'll get. Lastly, this is a pretty thankless job. Least personable boss I've ever had... and this is a teaching gig for gods sake! They won't let you know when you do things right, but they'll sure criticize what you do things wrong. Hard to gauge own performance. Unpleasant.

Pros

Flexible hours that I could choose, nice working space. My boss was nice and very reasonable. Pay was decent after I completed some certifications. When the teaching was effective it was pretty rewarding and it can be fun to talk to the kids.

Cons

It was honestly a very tiring job. The kids can get really rowdy and difficult to manage, especially if you have to teach three at the same time. Management required us to use tablets and a finicky platform for worksheets that was not helpful and forced me to further split my attention.
