Pros

A Mathnasium franchise is a super rewarding place to work. You will form bonds with students quickly and easily. The training is very helpful (and paid), and you get a raise every year you (as a student) work there. The better you are, and the harder you work, the more hours you get to work, which is great.

Cons

Some owners are very possessive of their centers (understandably). They will be very willing to hand you off new tasks, and it's not too hard to be promoted to a lead instructor position, but it is very difficult to convince them you are ready to take on a manager position. Even if they have the opening or like you better than their current manager, if you're looking for the promotion, be prepared to wait. And wait. And wait.

Pros

Flexible hours that I could choose, nice working space. My boss was nice and very reasonable. Pay was decent after I completed some certifications. When the teaching was effective it was pretty rewarding and it can be fun to talk to the kids.

Cons

It was honestly a very tiring job. The kids can get really rowdy and difficult to manage, especially if you have to teach three at the same time. Management required us to use tablets and a finicky platform for worksheets that was not helpful and forced me to further split my attention.
