STAY AWAY!! FIND ANOTHER JOB! - Motorcoach Operator Mears Transportation Group Employee Review

Pretty much everything. Be prepared to have your schedule all over the place. You don't get your schedule until 12:30 the day before and very often they don't post it until 2:30-3. You'll be assigned super early(3am or sooner) on your Monday while on your Friday you'll be assigned to check off of work super late(2-3 am the next day aka your Saturday). This effectively makes your "guaranteed" weekend just barely more than a full day since you'll have to adjust your sleep schedule. They have been requiring drivers to work at least one extra day a month for over a year now. They will not work with you if you have some prior engagement. Have school? Don't even bother applying here. Need to be out by a certain time to make a doctor appointment? Good luck with that, they'll have you work right up until your appointment time. Wife pregnant? Quit and find another job asap. My wife was pregnant and I filled out all the paperwork for leave and everything so that I would be ready. When she got within 2 weeks of her due date I requested that I get assigned to work in the Orlando area so that I'll be able to get out of work quickly if she happened to go into labor while I was at work. For those two weeks I never had so much work out of the area. I was most often in Tampa or at Port Canaveral. When she did go into the labor I was in Tampa. When I called dispatch to tell them this and that I was coming back so I could be there they tried to tell me I can't and that I'll have to finish out the rest of my day which was about 10 hours at the time. This is after I was told I will be allowed to leave immediately whenever my wife goes into labor. Despite them telling me no I told them too bad and came back anyways. They have extra drivers to cover situations like this everyday so they just sent out one of them to Tampa. I was lucky too. I made it to the hospital 30 minutes before my daughter was born. However, they tried to fire me for leaving work early without permission yet that failed since I had recorded the conversation with human resources that detailed how I'll be allowed to leave immediately when my wife goes into labor. There is so much more We are vastly underpaid and you max out on the pay scale after only 5 years. The gratuities included for a charter are never more than 10% the cost of the charter and they constantly allow the client to not include a gratuity at all. You are allowed to receive cash tips on certain areas of work but you are not allowed to solicit for them in any way shape or form. Not even in a polite professional way. They give you a tiny sign that says gratuities permitted for exceptional guest service yet you can only hang it near the ceiling of the bus in an area the guest almost never looks. Drivers are constantly fired for even the suspicion of solicitation. Also, most of the time in the advertisement or brochures or fine print for the transportation service it is said that gratuities are not permitted or not necessary. It also sometimes says the ride is complimentary which makes the passenger think that tips are not necessary. I was also told in my interview that I'll be making $50,000-$60,000 a year with cash tips on top of that. That was a downright lie. I make less than half of that and that inclues the cash tips I receive. Mears also uses a legal loophole to avoid paying their drivers overtime which results in long hours for pay that is barely adequate to support a single person let alone even just a married couple with no kids. The benefits are absolutely horrible and also recently got even worse. And that's just for a single individual. If you want to have your wife and kids on the plan too the price more than triples and for some plans it quadruples. All level of management is absolutely horrible. The drivers are treated with absolutely no respect. They even refer to us as equipment rather than employees or people. There is so much more I could go over but the bottom line is this: Just find somewhere else to work. This place is not worth it.
