Pros

Modern equipment; some knowledgeable dedicated technicians and doctors; caring owners and amazing patients;

Cons

I have worked for Medvet for more than 2 years and the passion I had for this career has slowly been killed. Medvet really doesn't care about life and work balance of its employees. You are required to work almost every major holiday. You are required to work 2 major holidays and 2 minor holidays. Medvet only considers New Year's day, Mardi Gras, Labor Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day as actual holidays. You do not get paid holiday pay for New Year's Eve, Christmas Eve, Easter or Memorial Day. PTO (Paid Time OFF) is grouped together with you sick pay. PTO is also taken away without consent to make up for any time lost (if you don't fulfill your required 40 hours a week). Less time with your family and more time at work. Some of the favored specialty departments and managers are not required to work holidays. ICU is one of the most important departments in Medvet and the technicians are treated the worst. Technicians are overworked and overloaded with patients which causes patient care to suffer. There are times when there is only 1 technician to 13-18 patients. Patients are not getting treatments on time and are laying in their own urine. So many medication dosage mistakes and missed treatments because of inexperienced new hires.Turnover is constant. Unable to comprehend why Medvet doesn't do its best to keep the experienced knowledgeable technicians it already has if there is a nationwide shortage of veterinary technicians. Have seen so many good technicians leave because of the unhealthy work environment and bad untrustworthy management. Instead Medvet would rather hire inexperienced people at lower wages to care for critical emergency and surgery patients. Have worked with many ER doctors and have seen them leave Medvet because they are frustrated with the lack of technicians to help with patient workload. Some of the Clinical managers are unprofessional, inappropriate (sexist and racist comments and conversations; can't believe they are managers) and unapproachable (seem angry and unhappy). Some of the Specialty doctors are verbally abusive and condescending to technicians but because these doctors bring in large amounts of money to Medvet, management turns a blind eye. Medvet raises its already high prices an average of 7-8% each year but employees only get a 2% increase. The money rarely trickles down.

Pros

The staff at the Commerce MedVet have been very supportive and helpful with teaching me the skills I was previously lacking. I got my first feline jugular blood draw and I was also given great tips about IV catheter placement.

Cons

I have no cons, the staff are very welcoming and if you want to learn they want to teach.
