Sloan Kettering is great place to work, if you're white. They claim they are "diverse" but lets be honest. Take a walk through the different floors and look at the nurses that are hired. Maybe you'll spot a minority here and there but majority is winter wonderland. I really wanted to like this place but my experiences have left me traumatized. My suspicions were verified when other nurses of color reported the same treatment (if not worse). For minorities, they magnify your mistakes. They make you feel like you will not succeed and no matter how much you do and it's not enough. I was made to feel inferior and my confidence was completely broken down. I'd see my fellow white co workers melting in with the staff while I was made to feel like an outcast. It was only until I left the place and got a new job I realized the problem wasn't me; it was them. Think about a vicious cycle where all you do is criticize a new nurse about the mistakes she makes. With emotional wear and tear the workplace ends up being a fearful place. There are better places to work in NYC that provide guidance and learning without the added glass ceiling.
