Pros

- The people are top notch and by in large down to earth. It is an extremely friendly place. - The retirement benefits are fantastic (pension after 5 years of service, corporate match of 401k) - The resources are tremendous. What might take months to accomplish in an academic lab take weeks or days here.

Cons

- Upper management is constantly changing the organizational structure. In the last 5 years, there have been nearly 4 large re-orgs that have severly hampered productivity. - We are not allowed to express our creativity here. Things are done using a "cookie-cutter" approach that is mind-numbing. - The politics (esp. among upper management) are pervasive and extremely counter-productive. - Goals are constantly being changed with none achieved.

Pros

Work from home (that may not always be a perk, but it is now for writers), choice of flexible hours (7 AM - 9 AM starting), friendly, helpful people, great bosses, people very interested in their jobs, plus a lot of educational benefits, you are trained on all aspects of Merck and your job.

Cons

I cannot think of any, though sometimes work from home has its drawbacks, because the employee doesn't get all the information that an onsite employee would.
