Pros

Excellent benefits - you even get a pension Great people to work with most people are friendly Flexible schedules and work from home are available sometimes Bonuses are excellent Compensation is typically very good There are committees focused on doing good for community Diversity is important and championed Casual dress at some locations

Cons

Leadership changes roles within a couple of years on average. There are some really fantastic, friendly, well-respected leaders but they are overworked and overstressed - they demand a lot because much is asked of them. I've seen some really appreciated and well respected leaders let go without explanation to their people. Managers change roles a little less often but frequently. Re-orgs seem to take place annually which sometimes results in job loss. Projects with long scopes sometimes radically shift direction or disappear all together without word. Intensive annual review process that requires lots of paperwork with no real opportunity for career advancement. Once you are in a job you will likely stay in that job, very hard to move or get promoted. There's a focus on money and efficiency not people right now, they are looking for ways to save and that means eliminating redundant tasks and positions. Best position would be one that is customer facing and adds $$$ to the company. Operational jobs or project management types of positions do not seem safe at the moment. There has been a significant decline in employee appreciation - no formal reward and recognition, very few team activities are allowed on extremely tight budgets. Complex corporate environment hard to understand and difficult to navigate at times. Layoffs are common practice these days, sometimes entire teams are cut, sometimes excellent people are cut without a solid explanation.
