Pros

Very linen on policies and protocols. So, you're a "I'm running late" type, chances are that you will get some sort of talk, and then brushed off. You will always find some sort of open job position.

Cons

Benefits are not the best. The pay vs. the workload is a slap in the face. Promotion of healthy working spaces is always said should be the way, yet they harbor toxic environments, and refuse to address issues nor people causing such toxicity in the work environment - regardless of how many complaints you issue. They more you know, the more work they attempt to give you, but if you ask for wage accommodation, they will be quick to inform you that you simply need to "stick to your role", and inform you that only HR has the power to control pay, and that they have no power on how much you get paid. Management has no clear direction when it comes to development, and tends to be "single minded", which does not help when you are a big organization that is supposed to be working together for better patient care. They promote work-life balance, but yet will force the issue of needing to use your PTO left and right for any department closures. The only alternative to this, is if the hospital or department you work in conducts some event were they will close early but you have to be in attendance - or else you will be forced to use your PTO to cover whatever hours you do not stick around for. NOTE: PTO is all you have. you don't have actual sick days. If you are out of PTO, you will be S.O.L. They have a sick time that just accumulates and unable to use, unless you go without pay from pro for a certain amount of days. And even then, there are restrictions to their "sick time"

Pros

Coming from a smaller size hospital but big company like Methodist and known high paying hospital in DFW, I needed more shifts. Since MDMC is bigger than my other PRN, I have higher chance of getting shifts because there are more monitoring stations, more staff taking PTOs, higher chance of staff calling out sick and therefore opening the shift, etc.

Cons

More workload and higher census! Almost 50 patients on heart monitor per station.

We're glad to hear that the flexibility and availability of shifts have been a benefit for you. As one of the region's largest health systems, Methodist offers opportunities that can help PRN team members find the schedule that works best for them. We also recognize that higher patient volumes and workload expectations can come with working in a busy, high-acuity environment. Supporting our team members remains a priority, and we continually evaluate our compensation programs and workplace resources to remain competitive and help our employees succeed. Thank you for the important role you play in caring for our patients and for being a valued member of the Methodist family.
