Pros
Small hospital that feels like family
Cons
The hospital cares more about dollars than patients & staff. They ask our opinion ever year to make it seem like they care, but nothing ever gets better. Staffing is absolutely terrible.... If you are lucky you will have 5-6 patients and maybe 1 PCA for the 20 to 40 patients on the floor. Very unsafe place to work, and no lifting devices! Eventually you will be injured working here because after all it is usually a skeleton crew and you can't just leave patients in their own feces and urine... so when the time comes to use it their short term disability company, sedgwick, (an extra benefit you pay for) it does not pay. Other cons Meditec.... get ready for documentation straight out of the dark ages and be careful because if you accidentally hit the F11 or get pulled away from your charting too long your assessment will be lost forever. Further, this is a disgusting old hospital.... some new paint was recently added to some floors but don't let that fool you. The folks in charge of housekeeping run the hospital like a 1 star rat motel in a bad part of town. The houskeeping staff are always nice, but cleaning is minimal and not effective... C-diff, MRSA, VRE are running rampant. And keep a copy of the Texas BON safe harbor form and laws in your locker, you'll need them on a regular basis. Further, if myself or a loved one ever needed to be hospitalized I would not let them be a patient here.
