Pros

Variety of patients, high acuity, fantastic ICU physicians and NP's. Flexibility to work 32 hours as full time. Best SLP team there could be (highly evidence based practice, not conservative with swallowing recommendations, no unethical practices).

Cons

No growth - no clinical ladder, no proper raises based on experience/skill, no CEU compensation, understaffed floors with limited RN experience (especially with trachs), limited workspace (~20 computers total for 150+ therapists). Productivity standards: 8 patients/8 hour day. Point system (points given if call in sick: 8 points = fired). Denied resources (SLP team of 9 has 1 endoscope. Most SLP teams have >5). Parking gets more limited every year (now down to one lot). Do not get compensated for having specific certifications.

Pros

Overall, a pretty strong health system in San Antonio to work for! I really love Methodist's emphasis on community engagement! And their programs seem to be very uplifting and empowering for both health care employees and for patients and their families!

Cons

I think that the onboarding could be somewhat more streamlined or smoother. I have to admit that I had to do a lot of driving to different Methodist facilities to get different parts of my onboarding dashboard taken care of and completed. It would have been much nicer if some of these onboarding tasks could have been consolidated into one, two or 3 locations at most.
