Pros
The job is stable. The benefits are good. There are plenty of locations to work inside the system so one can be near their home to reduce their commute time to work. The work environment is safe and the MTA provides you will all the tools and equipment you need to do the job safely. The management in this division is not unreasonable towards the employees for the most part.
Cons
Most of the work is repetitive assembly line type, or routine inspection type work. Many of the tasks or procedures are boring and require very little creative input. I you are new in the system it may take you many years to build up the seniority needed to get a job that is close to home. Hours and assignments are not flexible once you choose a position, shift, rest days to work on.
