Pros

I have been asking myself this sense I came and still do not have answer. If you have children the eventual potential to attend the university for free seems to attract people.

Cons

- I am currently employed is as a staff/faculty member. I have worked here for year now. The department I am in has an incredibly high turnover rate. Additionally, the leadership team is not at all interested in the actual day-to-day operations. There is general incompetence, mismanagement, and a top down attitude of blatant misogyny that I have never experienced until I came to work here. A lot of people are deeply connected to this university as they were former students. The preoccupation with legacy status is entrenched-so if you are from out of town prepared to be annoyed with the general since of entitlement that pervades this campus. Money, at least in this department, is a serious issue so much so that the contract I was just extended was for a 9 month instead of a year long contract. Never mind the fact that they have been dumping work on the already thin on the ground staff. They will sell you on the "opportunities to advance" but the reality is that once you are here it is very difficult to move out of a role or to receive significant increase in pay unless you know someone who knows someone because nepotism is also a part of the culture which explains some of the top down problems we currently have.
