Michaels is a fast paced company with many opportunities for growth and career advancement. If you want to move up fast and advance quickly within your career, this is the place for you. The benefits were exceptional and there is now a clinic onsite that is free for Michel's employees and their families. Michels is a great place to work, it you find the right department.
Cons
Because of the rapid pace the company is growing, the company does not have adequate resources to keep up with work loads. Time and time again, I have seen people fail and fall through the cracks due to unmanageable workloads and unrealistic expectations and deadlines. Burnout is real and when expressing those concerns to leadership, they get brushed under the rug and you are told you can't hack it. Or, instead of hiring help for the department, they pawn work on other departments who have no experience with those projects. The Human Resources Department is very toxic and when concerns were brought up about a possible bullying situation which caused 5 people within a matter of a year to resign due to one employee and management not taking the complaints seriously and instead, turning on the employee(s) making the complaint to make it seem like they were the problem. No one likes to be called "Little Nugget" or be talked to in a condescending tone. Behavior like that should not be condoned in a professional organization. We all understand that professional communicating either written or verbal is crucial to success, but please know, that even your teams (Instant Messenger) messages are taken into consideration. A platform that should be used as shorthand to ask simple questions could also count against you in your performance if you don't capitalize words properly, punctuate where necessary or use proper grammar. You will also see the Core Values. Not once have I seen any of the core values been used or practiced. They are nothing but a check mark on their business plan. Work life balance is non existent, or maybe that is a department decision, but don't expect to work remotely at all. Michels is all work and no play. If you are looking to start your career in Human Resources, I would not start it here.
