Pros
Pros: Microsoft offers strong compensation, smart and technically strong colleagues, large-scale products, and many opportunities to work on complex engineering problems. I worked on meaningful backend, security, privacy, observability, and cross-team initiatives. There are many talented engineers, and in some teams you can learn a lot from the technical depth around you.
Cons
Cons: The experience can depend heavily on the specific group and management chain. In my area, the management culture felt overly competitive and not always healthy. The performance and promotion processes sometimes encouraged people to protect information, compete internally, and focus more on visibility than collaboration. There were many good people at the engineering level, but the environment above that could create pressure, lack of psychological safety, and limited trust between peers.
