Pros
It is a great organization if you love to travel. Port time is longer than majority of shipping industry so you have opportunity to enjoy the ports you visit. Pay is great even for people with little to no skill in the industry. It's possible to make close to 60k to 70k at entry level depending on ship's management. Advancement opportunity is good as long as you want to remain a sailor.
Cons
Too many people working with sense of entitlement. Difficult to get productivity out of some people because it takes an act of Congress to write up or fire people. Although the relief has been getting better lately, over the years I have worked, the relief was always expected to be late. If you are thinking that sailing for MSC is a way into the government, its not. The appointment with MSC is a term appointment so you cannot transfer over to other government job.
