Pros

Monroe is an innovative college with an entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to results. Staff and faculty are required to be student focused. Both staff and faculty are very loyal with many people exceeding twenty years of experience at the college.New employees are asked to make contributions immediately and everyone is constantly asked to provide new ideas to improve student success. Many opportunities exist for staff to move up through the organization. Senior management is appreciative of staff efforts and shows it through pie give aways at thanskgiving, holiday party and some bonus vacation days. My favorite benefit at Monroe is that the college closes at 2:00 on Fridays.

Cons

Higher education is undergoing many changes at the moment and there continues to be a lot of pressure to make sure students retain, graduate and are employed after graduating. Monroe starts students 3 times a year and students take classes 11 months a year so there are no "quiet" times of the year like at traditional colleges. As part of the student centric culture, staff and faculty are encouraged to attend extra curricular student events like President & Deans List parties, graduation galas and sporting events, many of which are held in the evening or on weekends.

Pros

There are few amazing students.

Cons

Management is downright toxic. They thrive on pitting employees against each other and crushing any spark of innovation. If you dare to suggest an idea, you’re treated like a nuisance instead of valued. Salaries are insultingly low, yet they expect you to grind away endless hours as if your life belongs to them. The leadership is selfish, greedy, and completely indifferent to rewarding or recognizing the people who actually keep the place running.
