Morgan Olson Response
5yIt is true that our employees work overtime. Our data in Loudon, TN shows that in 2020 our employees worked an average of 7.74 hours per week of overtime. That comes both in the form of daily overtime and some weekend overtime.
We are up front about this in our hiring process and communications. Mandatory overtime for the weekends is posted by policy by noon on Thursdays. Generally, people will informally know before then that overtime is necessary because our production has fallen behind planned units. Also, in Loudon we have not scheduled seven days straight (i.e. Saturday and Sunday) as mandatory overtime since 2016.
Additionally, Morgan Olson management has recognized overtime as an issue and has taken steps to address it. We are hiring additional team members to help ensure that absences are well covered, production scheduling specifically limits the amount of scheduled overtime and we track the reduction of overtime hours as a key metric.
Unfortunately, like all manufacturing businesses we are impacted by events beyond our control. For example the recent ice storms and weather across much of the U.S. in February 2021 caused severe delays with parts supplies. Like many businesses, we had to schedule overtime in response to make up for last production.
