Pros
- The company prides itself on helping the individual investor, which is a belief to which most employees truly subscribe. - Free lattes and casual dress are incentives that some employees really enjoy, but don't outweigh the cons.
Cons
- Management struggles with decisions on how to best structure the firm, and as such there have been multiple large-scale reorganizations in recent history. - Compensation is severely below market for finance and IT professionals. Compensation is also awarded from top-down success of the company, and, as such, the (financial) incentive for individual business units to strive for success is completely eliminated. - Flat management structure and segregated business units leave little chance for upward mobility. - Many groups are very understaffed, so the promoted "work-life balance" that Morningstar prides itself upon is simply not true.
