Pros
Great colleagues who are very supportive for the most part (there can be some rogue personalities but for the most part everyone is very nice and smart. There is a lot of freedom to try different projects and explore things as long as you get manager buy in. Some of the offices are beautiful (some still have a 90s vibe). Sabbatical is great! Time off policy is very flexible. In general you have access to the best tools to do your job.
Cons
Going into this job you need to negotiate the highest salary you can get because that’s it. You might see a few cost of living increases over the years but apart from that the attitude is you get what you get, because of this staying long term at the company is not really a good strategy if you are looking for competitive wages and growth. There is a lot of politics at play and regardless of whether you like playing or not you will be involved in them. There is an excuse and explanation for literally everything so if you call out discrepancies in pay, growth, ect there is always a very tight clean reason why you are wrong. It’s challenging because you can really like the mission, the work you are doing and your coworkers, but after a certain amount of time you have to believe the actions of management rather than the words (re: promotions). It’s not totally apparent but there is a slight lean towards promotions of men over women here. To get anything done you need to go through layers upon layers approvals.
