Pros
Little to no work pressure; great benefits; College campus, despite being in Flint, is very safe. Public Safety patrols around the clock and provide additional support such as inflating flat tires, charging car batteries, opening classrooms. They are usually there within minutes. Rarely will you ever wait longer than five minutes. Most classrooms are equipped with at least instructor computers, in-built overhead projector/cam and sound.
Cons
No upward movement in college setting possible - you will most likely stay at same position for duration of employment. Applying to more senior-level positions, even with experience is virtually nil once you've been hired. Mott usually only hires fresh candidates. Negotiate salary before being hired because you will not be able to negotiate afterwards. Mott will adjust for standard inflation increases but only occasionally. Security cameras are in Curtis Mott complex only but not other buildings. Parking ramp activity is not recorded even though thefts, including auto thefts have occurred - they are only monitored. IT Services will eventually fix issues related to classroom internet connectivity but it may take a week and even longer so be prepared with handouts.
