Pros
-Strong development towards chartership -Project management within first year -Technical skills develop quickly -Can access support across whole of Mott Macdonald -Others within the business are very helpful and willing to give their time -Respectful of work hours to give a healthy work life balance -Happy to allow me to work from home (back in 2018 before it was normal for engineers!) -Lots of site work and problem solving with design and build projects
Cons
-Most work falls on graduate engineers within MMB as there is a lack of engineers between 3 and 10 years experience so you end up pressured by management -You have to learn fast as the rest of the team (design lead, contracts manager, QS and site team) will expect you to produce and update a design programme, a cost estimate and hold regular meetings with client and team on progress. At first it feels like everyone is leaning on you as the vulnerable little graduate but you come out of it much stronger and wiser -Based in an office far from a city centre -Long commute unless you live in Shropshire -Long drives to sites especially when I had to move to the Derby office -Basically would be an ideal job for young engineers if it was next to somewhere fun
