Pros

- Mujin product is very unique. It is not similar to any hot topics such as Machine Learning nowadays. It is mainly focused on Motion Planning, which applied at Industrial Automation only at Mujin, no other competitors dare to utilize such advanced algorithms in their products. - American typical start-up style, top-down management. Your leader or CTO has absolute power over decision-making. This is very important under the current business environment, as the company could change product or business strategy at any minute so that we can deal with any situation swiftly. - CTO is a world-class scientist, although he has limited experience in management, he is always willing to help your problem-solving, especially some quick-debugging skills when the deadline is tomorrow. - Group leaders are nice, they always focused on their own groups, will not respond to other matters unless CTO told to do so. This will help every group be very independent on R&D. - Customers are also very nice and patient, they won't be panic and consider mujin product as failure even facing on-site demo or production problem. Although our product is expensive, they are well educated that such innovation needs long-term development. - HR and administration are super nice, they will delete the internal account for retired people right away so that there will not be disturbing and embarrassing moments of communication. - free snacks and drinks - free Michelin restaurant lunch every day, except somehow tedium taste. - free dress code, free headphones. - salary is proper, higher than average traditional Japanese companies. You have to be super confidence when you want get high payment.

Cons

- You have to be very self-driven and motivated. Although the company has a 4-year cliff Stock Option and had not granted SO to anyone after 4-year vesting, you always have to focus on your own work, that is how mujin survives. - Work-life balance is hard, you have to assume the position when you enter the company, it required 24/7 demanding requests of debugging for customers. - A weird engineer ranking system. It seems there has no clear KPI, but all the rankings depend on CTO's feeling, but since he is a world-class researcher, most of the employees accept it after all.

Pros

Colleagues are easy to get along with

Cons

Imagine you work at in a company where deadlines are almost always missed due to lack of organization on multiple levels. Imagine you work unnecessary overtime. Unnecessary not because your colleagues are inefficient, but because leadership has failed to implement any cohesive planning/forecasting, and failed even further to allocate resources effectively. Imagine you feel anxiety about taking a vacation with your family, because you never know when that phone will ring, even if your contract never stipulates on-call requirements. Now imagine that during a company wide all hands meeting, you and your colleagues raise thoughtful questions about the direction of the company, and perhaps even pitch a few ideas of how to improve things. After all, feedback is crucial in any organization. After all manner of input and suggestions from multiple departments, managers and non-managers, the founder and CEO replies with simply this: "All this chaos is by design." That's it. No improvements, no changes, no self-reflection. This is what working in Mujin is like.
