Pros
It gave me the experience to move on to something else
Cons
- Historically high turnover at all levels - Toxic work/life balance. Us vs. them mentality at its absolute worst - Most corporate positions could be remote or hybrid, but the company insists on having everyone in the office. People were called back to the office in September 2020 at the height of the pandemic - Nepotism is prevalent - kids, nieces, friend's kids, etc. placed in leadership positions - Favoritism is a thing here. A guy in his 20s, who lacked the experience and leadership skills and had been with the company for about 2 years, was promoted 3 times. Examples like this are not uncommon in corporate - The vacation and benefits are outdated. Must use personal PTO for holidays – ouch. Expensive and subpar health benefits - Employees get little recognition for hard work unless you count a cookie or a slushy on Employee Appreciation Day - Every department works in silos, there is no sense of teamwork or a collaborative environment - Lack of training and professional development - Egotistical managers with no motivation to lift up employees - People of Color and Women will face an uphill battle to get promoted regardless of their qualifications, experience, or tenure with the company. There was a shocking lack of diversity, especially at the supervisor level and up. Not much opportunity if you are not a white male
