Pros

401K and other benefits are solid. Annual trip for top 10% of company leaders. Company car (can't take it out of the district though). Company has a strong focus on integrity.

Cons

The leadership of Murphy USA only cares about one thing - keeping off reports. Sales do not matter. People development doesn't exist. Work/home balance is irrelevant. The company, and it's leaders, do not care about your performance, they do not care about what you're doing to motivate your team, or what you are doing to develop team members. In a recent meeting of almost one quarter of the DMs, the overwhelming conversation topic was about having to work 7 days a week, a culture of micro-management and auditing, and a focus on controls, not sales or development. You will receive emails 7 days at any hour of the day or night that require instant response. If there is an injury in a store, you are not allowed to send that person to a doctor or the hospital. You must tell them to wait, as you get in your car and drive as far away as the store is (some of mine are over 3 hours away) and personally take them to a clinic. Both yourself and the injured associate can be terminated if this is not followed. This is done so the injured associate decides to not go to the doctor. If you interview, ask about DM turnover. It is scary how many District Managers (and Division Managers) have left or have their notice in. People don't leave a company they enjoy.

Pros

Fun coworkers, great customers. Regular customers who appreciate you and know it’s your job to ask for ID/upsell items. At my store, the manager will work around any day you need off so that is a big plus!

Cons

Some customers can be real PITAs and all around jerks. Sometimes it feels like we don’t get paid enough for what we do.

Pros

Good benefits. Fridays are half-days.

Cons

Terrible work culture straight out of the 90s that has never evolved. Low pay unless you're at the top. Sexism, various -phobias, pay discrimination, 'pizza days', the works. Lack of overtime is grounds for firing. Recently laid off 100 HO employees after acquiring a failing convenience store chain a dozen states away that ended up wasting a ton of money. Management that throws you under the bus. If you work really hard, you might get promoted after several years at your current level. Or you might not. Leaning hard into AI recently, which might not be a con for you, but is for everyone at MUSA currently using it.
