Pros
When I started, the ohio stores (under Colonial Music) had just been purchased by Music & Arts. Management was great at the store level. Schedule is very flexible (as everyone there was a musician and understood the need to gig.) Great to interact with teachers/students and share the gift of music with everyone. It's sales, but it doesn't feel like it due to what you're selling. BEST rental season program/training in the area, hands down. On slow days, being able to talk music and play instruments... it doesn't get much better than that.
Cons
Initial DM was incompetent, and so he got canned within 2 years. Company cares much more about quotas now, and wants people that will become lifers. Not much pay, and no real ceiling to grow (I worked there 3 years and led all categories of sales without a single raise.) Corporate culture is very inflexible to regional demands, Pay system encourages "sales shark" tactics between employees and hurts team bonding. Total of 50 part time hours only, which leaves new hires fighting for hours (since they were promised more than what they could receive.) POS systems were a joke with archaic IT support. Computers / Registers crashed regularly. MOST UNORGANIZED repair shop EVER.
