Pros

Majority of co-workers act as a team and do their best to communicate. Training is encouraged but recent budgets have restricted to mainly local offerings. Value of diversity and culture is high (e.g. lunch-time events with displays, speakers and food during the year. Flexible schedule (choose 8 hr 5 days or 9 hr with every other Friday off) and telework opportunities depending on your position. Opportunities to take 2-5 year positions overseas. Public transportation incentives. Good mix of people at varying stages in their careers. Normally only asked to do overtime (other than travel) during last quarter of fiscal year.

Cons

Furloughs and sequestration uncertainties further hinder project progress and moral in supporting the mission. Promotions seem to be advertised but you need to be willing to relocate.Computer storage is often limited and updating to new systems is cumbersome and time consuming. Facilities outdated with unreliable temperature control and pest problems intermittently. Work is often hurry up and wait-never can a project be completed on time. Given it's big govt, change difficult unless you are in upper management.

Pros

Won’t fire anyone, know how much you’re going to make.

Cons

Bad raises. Job growth is very uncommon. Management is incompetent from top to bottom. Not enough people and too much work. Nepotism is rampant in this organization. Unqualified people are promoted. Career bad apples are left without being fired or disciplined. First level managers are useless. They at too much red tape to do the most basic things. Upper levels are arrogant and hard headed.hiring has been frozen for a year yet somehow the ‘bud club’ is promoting people constantly who are in their ‘inner circle’. Hiring actions are super sketchy, names are dropped for specific people to be hired etc. It’s crazy
